Crowning Glory: Replacing the Pinnacle 2004
Crowning glory – A pinnacle modeled on the original was lifted onto the main tower, as part of its ongoing restoration during August 2004 and reinforced the Old Castle as a landmark. A huge crane lifted the new 9-metre steeple, weighing about three-and-a-half tons made out of galvanized steel and imported slate.
In the interim the pressures on the parking has meant that it was necessary to proceed with the parking structure – even though the gate house, tower and landscaping have not been finalized. But in the true style of how the Old Castle got its special character the whole process should be an ongoing one.
